My friend once told me that it will take a couple of years to complete a backpack tour of Europe and millions of pesos will be spent on that trip.
If I had the money, I would not even think about it: EUROPE is the continent to be. And why not? Europe is surrounded by sea, dotted with amazing mountain ranges, and everything in the continent is picture-perfect. The continent is super rich in history and culture, the foremost proponent of change and revolution came from Europe. The intellectuals, the artists, the philosophers, the writers, the stylish – somehow are all connected to this wonderful continent. And I would like to take in all its eternal glory, all its wonders, all its glory – while I am alive, even if it means just looking at pretty pictures and prospect travel destinations right now. An all-European vacation would be that one trip of a lifetime.
Suppose I go on an all-European tour, this would be my list of to-go countries:
I’d like to be in Paris, of course! The cafes, the shops, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre… I’d also like to see the countryside, to take in that exotic French quality that I wish I have. Ah France is equivalent to chic. Oh and don’t forget Nice, Antibes, Cannes and St. Tropez. Let’s do some yachting! And trek the Pyrenees, why not? Visit centuries old monasteries and villages… God my heart is pounding.
This country is just near-perfect, if I may say so. Rome is there, Venice, Milan, Sardinia, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, Portofino, and Florence! I’d love to see all the sights and experience the whole of it. I want to see the vineyards and olive gardens, all its grandeur. My heart is pumping in my chest. I want to see all of Italy, period.
I want to roam its valleys, plains and mountain ranges. Austria sounds so exotic and mysterious to me.
Germany is a very interesting place, not only for its history but also its culture. I’d definitely like to visit Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Cologne. I’ve seen photos of these places and there are so many beautiful places to go to in this country.
17th century architecture, I’d love to see all the city has to offer on this. Oh and yes, because I’d like to take a bike around the canals, take a break at a different coffee shop everyday, and take one peek at the Red District, teehee! And of course, visit the Van Gogh Museum!
Well, our country had been its colony for 333 years, and they have left a lot of their culture in here, so I think it is fitting to be here. I’d love to see Barcelona, Catalonia, Ibiza, Valencia and Andalusia. I think Spain is colourful, wonderful, flavourful, and I’d definitely would like to try the night-out in Madrid, si. My elementary Spanish is rusty so I had better practice.
Oh I’d love to experience that East-meets-West quality of this country. Istanbul would be a priority place to visit. Turkey stirs in me a sort of exotic and spicy feeling. I don’t really know how to explain it. I’d like to visit the Hagia Sophia, that’s for sure.
This place somehow is… mythical. Primarily because of its Gods and goddesses, but also because of its wonderful islands like Mykonos, Santorini and Crete. The view of the ocean from those white stucco houses is unbelievable.
I’d very much like to be in Dubrovnik. Travellers who have been in there were at a loss for words to describe that city, and I’d like to experience that as well.
I first fell in love with this place when it was described in the book The Historian. Right there and then I wanted to see the Danube, especially at night. I want to see its mountain ranges. I want to be in Budapest. I want to see the Great Hungarian Plain, and all its cities. I think it is a country rich in culture.
I fell in love with this place too because of The Historian. I want to experience Bucharest, to drive along the Transfargarasan road, and to visit the Bran Castle, or more popularly known as Dracula’s Castle. I want to visit its monasteries and villages, and take what its cities has to offer.
Stockholm and Uppsala, here I come! Oh hey and if I can, well, welcome me, Scandinavian Mountains! Oh and I’d love to take a peek at the royal family. :p Well, I have a thing for royals…
Somehow, silent power is what comes to mind when I think of Switzerland. It’s a prosperous, high tech and stable country. They have the Alps, their beautiful valleys, plateaus and foothills, their major European lakes, glaciers, and hey, the CERN lab is here, where the world wide web was born. Zurich and Geneva are definitely must-see places. They have loads of Nobel prize winners, and my favourite tennis player of all time, Roger Federer, is Swiss.
Their landscape is characterised by flat, arable land and sandy shores. Isn’t that quite interesting? I’d also very much like to visit Copenhagen, and stay in one of the Danish villages. Again, royal family… I’d love to see and learn more about this country.
Well, hello Lisbon and Algarve! I am very much interested in the Algarve coasts, characterised by high plateaus over low sandy beach. I love the beach, always been a beach person. And the Algarve Coast definitely caught my attention!
16. United Kingdom
Well of course!!! I think the UK is an exciting, all-in-one package for all your needs! I mean they are surrounded by wonderful landscapes and London is there, okay? This is the country of great English literary figures and I adore them and their works. Music, too – thanks goodness for your talented musicians. Look at me babbling. England is a terrific place, I;d very much like to stay in the countryside and travel to London and visit the very picturesque Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
17. Czech Republic
Oh I’d sure would love to explore this country. Stay in Prague maybe, and see the surrounding spa towns and the rolling hills and visit their beautiful national parks, and maybe see a puppet show or two. Yes, because apparently, they hold festivals for this. Isn’t in wonderful?
I think Iceland has one of the most sublime landscapes in Europe. Lush with those snow-capped mountain ranges in winter and the greens, yellows and browns of summer and spring. They have loads of natural hot springs and well, active volcanoes. I think that when I try to take in all of this beauty my heart will break or something. It would also be lovely to stay in one of those traditional Icelandic Turf houses!
Oh great Russia! Damn I’d love to go explore this place, really. Sight-see in Moscow and Saint Peters burg oh yes. Visit its wheat fields, see a forest full or Birch trees, go to the Upland, attend festivities, and bring home lots of Matroyshka dolls!
I want to see the Prince’s Palace and Andreas Casiraghi if possible. Haha! When I learned about his engagement to Tatiana Sto. Domingo, it broke my heart. Haha. I think I am a little in love with him. Anyway… a drive on the Grand Corniche will sure take my mind off of him. Or not. And the Grand Prix, oh baby!
There you have it, folks. My long list of places I’d like to visit on this particular vacation. Based on this list, I think I’d be on vacation a looooong time. 🙂 But who cares? Travelling is one of the greatest form of learning, because all your senses are working while you are on the go, exploring all the things you haven’t before. It gives us the highest pleasure.
See you on one of my trips! 🙂
